Behavior Disorders

Behaviour disorders in childhood and adolescence

The behaviour disorders are one of the most frequent problems in childhood and adolescence. The prevalence rates vary according to sex, ranging from 6 to 16% in males and from 2 to 9% in females. Furthermore, the conduct disorders are one of the problems in childhood and adolescence for which more professional help is sought.

It is not easy to determine when the temper tantrums, disobedience or bad behaviour are something “normal” for the age or when they may require professional help. Temper tantrums usually appear in the age range from 1 to 4 years old and diminishes as children grow and better understand what they can and cannot do.

However, sometimes, instead of stopping with age, the temper tantrums appear with greater frequency and intensity.  If you can identify with this situation, perhaps it is a good opportunity to seek professional help. Numerous studies show that the earlier the detection, diagnosis and intervention in conduct problems, the more feasible the intervention is.
